Championship Season in full swing

What a weekend! Those off in Philly at Stotesbury saw some tremendous results, including wins in the Sr Boys 4+ and Freshmen Girls 4x along with several other finalist and medallists. Over in Worcester, MA the 8 girls who made the trip finished 1st and 2nd in the pair, 2nd and 5th in the Lightweight double, and first in the lightweight four. And... back at home - we had a tremendous regatta going for the Jr B/C Championships. Toga had a very strong weekend at home as well. Just as exciting was the growth of this regatta and the distances traveled for our competitors. We were pleased to have entries from: Oakland, CA; San Diego, CA; Sarasota, FL; Mississauga, Can; St. Catherine's, Can; Meredith, NH; and many others.

SRA is so blessed to have such great athletes, volunteers, staff, water, and town!

Next weekend 60 varsity members head off to Camden, NJ for Scholastic Nationals.

SRA Divide and Conquer

This is a busy weekend for SRA. The Varsity boys and freshmen girls left on thursday for Philly and the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. 8 varsity Girls left on Friday for the North East Regionals Regatta in Worcester, MA. At home, on Saturday, the Modifieds are hosting day one of the Jr. B/C Champs (thanks to some help from the varsity girls). Saturday night the Varsity Boys and Frosh Girls will return home - hopefully in time for Prom for some of them. Sunday those in 10th grade and younger will host the Jr. B/C Champs. A busy weekend for sure! All that, and throw in a visit from Oakland Strokes of Oakland, CA as well as a few canadian Clubs and the Prom. Whew - Championship season is fast and furious! This will have to be a brief update... we at SRA need to go get some serious sleep!

States was one of the best weather states we have ever had. The wind was calmer for finals, but still a quartering head wind. SRA had a huge day. I have not had the opportunity to count the number of medals won by the SRA squad, but I know there were a LOT of happy kids.

Saturday was one of the nicest weather days for States as far back as i can remember (well... actually, I can barely remember last week - it has been a crazy season). However, the wind was howling. Fortunately I got a chance to go visit the starters platform between head racing and Sprint racing while I was setting the stake boats back in lanes 3 and 4. The starters platform consists of construction staging ratchet strapped to a pontoon boat... With a gusty wind in your face, it was like an amusement ride up there! Wind aside, races ran all day, and finished within a few minutes of the scheduled conclusion. There was some great racing out there. The results and tomorrows heat sheets can be found on the NYS Championships Page. Oh.. the major obstacle of the day... All you spectators on Verizon and AT&T totally jammed up the bandwidth and our internet connection on the aircard was intermittent so it was very hard to get results printed in a timely fashion. Good thing we have a capable timing crew who are clever with timers, radios, and a scooter (and Scotty C, the fix it man)! Good luck to all crews tomorrow... Lets hope for a slightly less windy day.

The regatta is only half the size of the Saratoga Invitational, but the days remain full. Good luck to all.

Our New Celebrity...

So you are expecting me to mention Marcus Fuller, star of "One Fall" who is a member of Bean's Babes and Dudes. But actually, we have a new celebrity. Coach Bean! Just today Bean went down to NYC to star in a commercial that will run on ABC during the Billboard Music Awards. She brought a single down there, and after Breakfast, Wardrobe, and Make-up she proceeded to row her single off into the fog multiple times while being filmed from every angle. Our list of famous people is growing. Marcus Fuller, Jes Hudak, and now Bean! Watch her during the Billboard Music Awards on ABC Sunday May 20th.

Weather is unrelenting

Day 2 of the Saratoga Invitational began with a leisurely start at 10:30 due to the Liberty League Championships being run in the first 3 hours of the day. From the moment the racing began in the AM the head wind slowly and steadily built in speed. Eventually, the final 4 hours of the days racing needed to be cancelled. The officials made a good call, and while some coaches might have been frustrated - me :-)... the kids over at Lees park actually cheered when the announcement went over the loudspeakers. Saratoga Invitational

Despite the high winds, racing on Fish Creek continues as scheduled. Day one ran without a hitch. Races were shortened to 1000 meters to avoid the choppiest of water and the races moved out of the stake boats to keep the races running on time. That being said, the racing was extremely competitive, and while the mens singles were cancelled at the beginning of the day, they were added back in at the end of the day and every competitor got to race. Fish Creek and the Toga race course has got to be one of the top courses in the country when faced with a W/SW wind. It was blowing over 20 mph friday, and #togainvite2k12 raced singles doubles and pairs from 4:00-7:30 in the afternoon. Keep an eye on the regatta page for results and updates

With over 935 entries. The Saratoga Invitational might just be the largest spring regatta in the country. Things are busy here at the boathouse as we gear up for the event.
